Tizanidine is an agonist at ?2-adrenergic receptor sites and presumably reduces spasticity by increasing presynaptic inhibition of motor neurons. In animal models, tizanidine has no direct effect on skeletal muscle fibers or the neuromuscular junction, and no major effect on monosynaptic spinal reflexes. Zanaflex Uses

Tizanidine (brandnames Zanaflex, Sirdalud) is a drug which is used as a muscle relaxant. It is a centrally acting ?-2 adrenergic agonist. It is used to treat the spasms, cramping, and tightness of muscles caused by medical problems such as multiple sclerosis, spastic diplegia, back pain, or certain other injuries to the spine or central nervous system. It is also prescribed off-label as a sleep aid, seizure inhibitor, and for some symptoms of fibromyalgia. Tizanidine may cause hypotension so caution is advised when it is used in patients who have a history of orthostatic hypotension. Take Zanaflex as directed. Your dosage will probably need to be adjusted by your doctor initially to achieve satisfactory results. Follow directions exactly.

Zanaflex Side Effects

Nausea, drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, unusual weakness or dry mouth might occur. If these continue or are bothersome, notify your doctor. To minimize dizziness, stand up slowly when arising from a sitting or lying position. Notify your doctor if you develop: yellowing skin or eyes, stomach pain, vomiting, hallucinations. Very unlikely but report: vision or hearing changes, urinary frequency or burning, slow or irregular heartbeat, black stool.
